FCHS English Class Shows Generosity, Donates Handcrafted Blankets
Students from Mrs.Vaughan’s English I classes made six no-sew blankets and delivered them to the nursing home. This project resulted from reading a story out of Chicken Soup for the Soul.
"Chicken Soup" Story
A story from Chicken Soup for the Soul began a community service project. After reading “Kindness is Contagious” and discussing the results of a high school student helping some elderly people, the class members decided to do something for the residents of Way Fair.
Handcrafted Blankets
They had a break from regular classroom work to make six no-sew blankets. Students trimmed, measured, cut, and tied two pieces of fleece together to make the blankets. The hands-on activity involved teamwork, thoughtfulness, and fun. The students later wrote about their experiences.
Delivered to Great-Grandmother
Avery Jones, Randall Legg, and Brittney Turgeon took time one day after school to deliver the blankets. Avery was happy to personally give one of the blankets to her great-grandmother.
