Principal's Message

Quote"I believe it is the goal of FCHS to provide each student the opportunity to develop their skills/abilities to prepare them for the ever-changing challenges in this 21st Century society and to have the opportunity to live a successful and productive life." - Mr. Josh Ebener, Principal

As I enter my 2nd year as principal of Fairfield Community High School, my beliefs and goals for our school have not changed. I believe it is the goal of FCHS to provide each student the opportunity to develop their skills/abilities to prepare them for the ever-changing challenges in this 21st Century society and to have the opportunity to live a successful and productive life. Each student will become a well-rounded, educated citizen and productive member of our society in a setting which pursues academic excellence and the utmost respect for every individual.

Within this context, we have many challenges. If we are to prepare students for the 21st Century, we need to prepare students for jobs that don’t exist. That is the task for teachers and administrators at FCHS. Our society is quickly changing and it will continue to change. My children are in their 20s and graduating from college. I want them to acquire a job in which they can be productive, successful and happy in 20, 30, 40 years from today. I want the same for our students. The economic, political and social structures we experience today will not be the same in years to come. A job in the oil industry can be very lucrative today but the term “oil rig” and “rough neck” may be obsolete in 20 years. We want our children to be productive, successful and happy in the world we are becoming.

The challenges and expectations we have in education are ever-changing. We, as educators, need to focus on teaching 21st Century Skills, such as collaboration, information analysis, creativity, critical thinking skills, innovation, and technology literacy. (This is in addition to the math and reading skills required by the No Child Left Behind legislation.) Technology makes these skills more powerful and they are utilized more frequently today. We are in the midst of an Information Age. For our students to reach their highest potential, we need access, analyze, create and communicate information with these digital tools.

Obviously, the job of educators has become more challenging. It is more important than ever for teachers, administrators and board members to collaborate and communicate with the community. We need to work as a team to give our students the opportunity to be educated and productive members of our ever-changing society. What will not change is the demand for academic excellence and respect for each individual.

I wish to thank everyone for their support throughout my first year at FCHS. I truly enjoy my job and much of that is attributed to the quality of people in our school and community.

Please feel free to contact me at the high school, if you have any questions or concerns as we pursue these goals with our students.

Sincerely,
Mr. Josh Ebener, Principal
